Toyota Hilux has been spied testing in India near Lucknow,Uttar Pradesh.India gets the Toyota Fortuner which is based on Toyota Hilux and share certain other aspects with this pickup.This spied vehicle was a customer car registered in Nepal,so Toyota India is not launching the Hilux in India.
India gets the new Toyota Fortuner which is based on the same platform as the Hilux and shares several other parts with the pickup.India got the SUV version of current generation Toyota Hilux which was introduced back in 2015.Toyota Fortuner came to India in November 2016.
The variant which is spied is ‘G’ powered by a 2.8-litre 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine with power of 177 BHP and 420 NM of peak torque.For Nepal,only a 6-speed manual gearbox is offered but for markets like Australia and other countries,Toyota also offers 6-speed Automatic gearbox.
This is the 8th generation Hilux which is based on all new platform with improved side and front impact structure to meet the stricter crash test norms.
This dual pickup is offered in a total of 8 colour schemes in Nepal,which imports the model from Thailand.Features offered includes LED DRLs,LED headlamps,Keyless entry with push start stop button,automatic climate control,rear AC vents and a 7-inch infotainment system.
There are many reasons why Toyota may not launch the pickup in India.One of them is that Toyota already has a SUV based on Hilux platform in India.Plus as a part of Toyota-Suzuki joint proposal,Toyota is focussing on redesigning of Suzuki badged cars.
